So what is the best way to save energy? And no, I am not going to tell you that the best way to save energy is to switch suppliers (although that is a good way to save energy and money). The best way to save energy is by simply using less.

This means being aware and using the power of your brain to make better decisions. For instance, don’t run your dishwasher if it is not full. You will run it less often, save energy, and save money. It would help to have an energy efficient dishwasher, but that’s beside the point.

The same holds true with your washer and your dryer.

When you get into your car to run errands, be sure to take care of as many as you can at the same time, saving fuel, money and time. And if you need to deposit a check at the bank, why not take your bicycle? or walk?

Turn off your computer when you are not home… and don’t forget to shut the monitor too!

You see, it’s your habits that can make a big difference in saving energy. Try to be aware of what you are doing and make conscious decisions to be more energy efficient. Everything you do counts, everything I do counts.

It’s summer and the heat is on. It’s the time when we crank up our a/c to fend off the blistering heat just to get a little comfort on these dog days of August.

So what does this mean for energy consumption and energy costs? Simple… this is the time when we tend to push the limits of the energy grid, leaving systems to operate at the brink of failure. Utilities often charge higher rates during peak hours, so we get double-banged: we pay more and risk overloading the system.

What can we do about it? Fortunately, this is simple too. The highest energy demand is during the day, so try to keep that thermostat in check during the daytime hours. If you are out (say at work) during the day, shut off your a/c altogether, or leave it set high. Run your washers, dryers, and dishwashers during the evening or night hours. Not only will this lower the demand on the grid during peak hours (which is good if you want to avoid system failure), but it also lowers your cost of energy since rates are typically lower at night.

What else can you do? Take advantage of energy deregulation and switch your local supplier to a lower cost supplier. Click here to switch or find out more.

Stay cool!

If you live in New Jersey, consider yourself lucky. Yes, I’ve heard all the Jersey jokes too, but the truth is New Jersey is a beautiful and diverse state. If you live or work in New Jersey, you know what I mean. What other state has pristine beaches, flowing mountains, a gambling mecca, and close proximity to New York City? None. Period.

But the best part is your electrical usage, the fact that New Jersey is a deregulated state, and the many opportunities this brings to you. For instance, you can get in on the business opportunity to help consumers and businesses to save big bucks on electricity while helping the environment. Such an easy business because everyone needs your products & services, there is no change to their billing or utility, and it saves them money!! What can be easier? (click here to get in on the business or to find out more). BUT, if this simple business is not up your alley, that’s ok… as a resident of New Jersey, you can still save on your power for your home and your business. Click here to save on your electric bill.

Why? Maybe it has something to do with those high New York City electric rates? Maybe it has something to do with the need for greener energy in New York? Or maybe people are becoming interested in the business opportunity of being a Viridian associate, so they too, can help others save money on their electricity.

This could be the best news we have heard in a long time for New York City regarding the deregulation of energy. Viridian Energy, the responsible energy company (yeah, I didn’t write that, I got it from Viridian), is now online with Consolidated Edison of New York.

What does this mean?

This means that New York City residents have a chance to reduce those New York energy rates while helping our planet. How cool is that? If you are reading this blog, you probably already know that local utilities prefer that you switch energy suppliers. Con Ed will still be providing your energy service, and Con Ed will still be providing your monthly bill. The only change is where Con Ed gets the energy from before delivering it to you.

This one is a no-brainer… it is quick and easy to switch to Viridian as your energy supplier with Con Ed. Just click here. It takes about 5 minutes online (grab your electric bill for reference). There are no commitments or fees. If you are a commercial Con Ed customer, you will notice an even greater impact with Viridian Energy.

Go for it. I am a Viridian assoicate, so let me know if there is anything I can do to help!
